About Me

My name is John. I work in an office.

Despite the fact that my employer makes full use of email, telephony, instant messaging and other forms of modern communication, my immediate manager seems to prefer to interact entirely via post-it note.

Like many managers, he is an idiot.

Three years ago I started saving his notes in a desk drawer. I’m not sure why.

This blog contains some of my favourites.

  1. Oh my God! You’re T. Coraghessan Boyle! Please send me an autograph and photo (preferably naked… the photo not the autograph). And don’t ignore me Boyle. I know where ya live.

  2. This is so hilarious! Thank you for living through his idiocy so that the rest of us can laugh about it. You are a true hero.

I’m definitely coming back for more.

  3. Felicia permalink

Thank you for sharing! Totally Hilarious!!!!

  4. I felt that I was the only one subjected to an idiot boss and was having an exceptionally hard time dealing with his idiocracy. Thanks for helping me get through today, I’ll be nice to him and keep my job, but I am inspired to start a text blog… of all his idiot text.

  5. I should start collecting the emails that my boss forwards to me that I already recieved because I was in the original sent list but she wouldn’t know because she never checks.

Thanks for these. They are priceless.

    • p.sawyer permalink

Me too! Hate it when I get forwarded an email twice. For goodness sake, just check the To/CC list before sending it… There are only like 10 names there!

    • cbamom permalink

Better to email them to yourself at home, and leave them in your computer at work where they are. Also clear them out of your sent list. You never know when the higher-ups get access to your computer. NOT worth getting fired over or ruin your references if you leave.
My wise co-worker once told me “Nothing on THIS computer belongs to you, only to Company” and “Never put anything in your email/FB/text/blog, etc that you would not want to see on a billboard along the highway.”

  6. This is great. I’m glad I stumbled upon your blog.

  7. Soooooo hilarious!
I went through that phase before, when the internet at the office wasn’t working properly.

  8. darthbergen permalink

Your blog is great. Thanks for the entertainment.

May I use some of your blog posts as examples in the Writing 12 class I teach? They illustrate that lack of clarity and specificity may have unintended consequences.

    Thanks.

    • Please, help yourself.

If you need more, just let me know. I quite literally have a desk drawer stuffed full of them.

      • Sam permalink

        Refreshingly excellent usage of ‘literally.’

  9. I -heart- little yellow notes! But I don’t like them from my boss either!

  10. Congrats of being Freshly Pressed! Your blog is my blog’s twin! I save notes from my students but my notes are not annoying.

  11. question? Is your new found popularity going to get you in trouble at work? I hope not!

  12. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your blog! You’re hilarious! Keep it up!

  13. OMG!!
    It’s just… so incredible!!

I never read something so stupid…
It doesn’t make me wanna found a job after school X)

However, I’ve to tell you how much I laugth when I read your blog. I’ll be back, cause it make me happy =D

ps: I’m French, so I’m sorry for my bad English =p

Thank god for freshly pressed… I dont know what I’d have to have googled to have found this blog otherwise! Brilliant! xx

  15. hellyamber permalink

gold! just had to say that.

  16. I love this. Only wish I had the guts to post all the stupid things my “friends” bosses say. Because my boss is WONDERFUL! Seriously she is. Do you believe me? I’ll never tell.
    Keep up the good work!

  17. What’s most funny is that if your boss re-read his notes, he probably wouldn’t see the humor or the lack of clarity. So true of management – if you have the ability to do, that doesn’t mean that you are necessarily suited to directing others to do. Too many managers are barely keeping their own stuff together and completely unable to step back and really letting their direct reports thrive.

    Good luck!

  18. I’ve just found this blog really amusing. Keep on posting your boss’ crazy post-it notes. Btw, I’m a post-it girl, too hahahaha 😀

genius – what a fabulously creative blog! I have had many ass hole bosses over the years – luckily I have a very nice one now!!

  23. I agree with sweatybetty, take a picture of the drawer! This is my new favorite blog. Thanks for showcasing how someone can take something as simple as a Post-It Note and turn it into passive aggressive warfare.

It’s been a while since I have had so many out-loud chuckles! Thanks for saving what seemed to be detritus, because they are really golden nuggets!!

  49. Today my stupid boss bought a new cell phone. Last night he dropped his in his pool. That should have been the end of it. It wasn’t. He put his phone in the dryer thinking it would fix it. Now he’s out a phone and his dryer needs servicing to remove the tiny shards of glass when the phone screen smashed apart.

  57. Hilarious! Thanks for sharing and letting us all laugh at your unfortunate situation. If I had a boss like that I would have to staple his next post-it note to his mouth!

    Sunshine award!

  67. This is one of the cleverest, funniest blogs I’ve ever come across…it is hysterical, and I can see how it could be so, so true…wow…they always say truth is stranger than fiction…perhaps its also funnier too! 🙂

  68. The notes are priceless. I cannot decide whether they are the product of an excellent imagination, or if your boss actually got promoted by mistake

  69. I am an accountant but not your steroetypical accountant. My stereotypical accountant boss uses printer/copy papier and highlighters to draft financial masterpieces which could easily be done in excel. He calls these number artworks “hand jobs”. How do they get to be bosses?

  70. These are hilarious! Are they actually real?!?!

  71. Where are your posts!!! Get to work!

I’d prefer post-it notes to the sideways looks of total intolerance for my obvious stupidity. But these let me put it all in perspective! (I guess that’s what happens when you have a young know it all PhD for a boss, and a middle aged PhD as her subordinate.) Thank you for the laugh, just what I needed.

  88. This is incredible! I thought I was the only one that sees idiot managers every single day LOL

  89. I now have to reapply my mascara. I really don’t have time for that. Thanks, a lot, dude!

  90. Great job with this. It was eye-rollingly funny. I should send you some of my previous boss’s e-mails. They’re really horrid.

Hey, if you have a sec, check out my blog http://1styearofmarriage.com/

  91. Thank you for sharing John! They are hilarious. You have quite a following – has your boss discovered this blog?

    • So far no. He still hasn’t figured out how to turn on the lights in his office so I think I should be able to coast through to retirement undetected!

  92. Thanks for a good deal of laughter! I have mentioned your blog on mine and recommended it there for English language students. Keep the laughs coming, please!

  93. I love you blog! It makes me laugh wen I need one during the day. I’m not sure if anyone has asked this of you,but have you thought of writing a book using your Post-It-Notes from your boss? It would be a best-seller!

  101. I hope if you’re being stalked by Post-its, they are at least the pretty colored ones!
I served in corporate America for 11 years and Post-its were definitely part of the culture. I liked the itty-bitty ones, just enough room for a few choice letters 😉

  109. Awesome Blog John. Looking forward to see many more post it notes. Me too suffering from a horrible boss … Thanks for sharing fun. Nice to meet you….:)

  110. This blog is all-too hilarious! I know this is kind of a shameless plug but I’m going to be starting my own blog soon and I took a few ideas from the layout of this one!

  111. Micah Kipfer permalink

This is fantastic. One time my boss called me in late for work; but said it wasn’t my fault after I showed him that on the schedule, instead of writing my name, he just wrote “salads”.

  112. What a fabulous idea! I can’t wait to read more.

  113. I was looking for something funny and THIS was it. You boss is a complete f*cking idiot! Oh my! I can’t even begin to imagine the stuff you haven’t shared with us. No wonder you made a blog … you were going to explode with all this passed on idiocy! Thanks for sharing! I wish you strength every day of this job with this cretan. 🙂 … and don’t quite your job, I’ve got to keep reading this post-its!

  114. quit … not “quite” your job … ooops!

  115. I agree your boss does appear to be an idiot. And that makes him eligible for membership of the Institute of Mediocre Management. Please sent him to http://www.Dicklannister.com as we can help him excel at being a Dick. Great site BTW !

  116. OH how I wish I had thought of this last year. It would be entitled “texts from my boss”, however, as she thought that it was an appropriate form of communicating with – and sending abusive messages to – her staff throughout the working day. I got summoned to her office whilst extremely busy, for not responding. She was the head of an Early Years department. I was a teacher.

  117. sudebaker permalink

I think we had the same boss! Only mine left things like: “2:14 a.m. I’ve been working on the Project Tracking spreadsheet and the numbers are all wrong. I’m taking a nap in the back office. Wake me when you get in.” And I’d find him on the floor of the back office, asleep on a roll of paper towels.

  118. I like Dilbert very much…
…and your blog reminds me a lot of this typical office….life!
I will keep an eye on all the new post-it you will post there!

  127. As a Personal Assistant, this page is my new favourite thing!! If we all got together and collected all the crazy emails, post-its, texts voice mails, etc. our bosses have sent us, we could probably open a pretty kick-ass museum!
